Hey There, I’m Leah!

I help women learn to make informed decisions about healthy dietary & lifestyle choices that fit in their lives.

When the mainstream medical system failed me, I
found the functional medicine world & learned how
much was in my own control through diet, lifestyle &
environmental changes.

I’m not gonna lie, it’s not always the easiest rood to
navigate . . . & that’s why having a coach can make
all the difference!!!

As a Registered Nurse turned National Board Certified Functional Health Coach, who has traveled that path on my own health journey, we can work together to . . .

• Navigate dietary & lifestyle changes to improve symptoms.

• Build confidence to make informed health decisions.

• Learn you can count on yourself to take action.

• Become your own biggest health advocate.

• Collect tools for your toolbox to troubleshoot on your own.

• Develop resilience to enhance & extend quality of life.

• Take control of your health naturally.

• Create lasting sustainable change.

You’re the expert in your life.
I'm here to help you recognize

Inquiring Minds Wanna Know

How do I know if coaching is right for me?

Whether you don’t feel as well as you’d like, you’re struggling to stick to your health goals, you want to be a good role model for healthy living, you just need someone on your side, or any of the other myriad of reasons people choose health coaching, you never know until you try it, so if anything I’m saying is resonating with you, it all starts with a free Meet & Greet Call with me. (No need to freak out. . .it’s just a conversation.)

In this call, we’ll talk about where you are, where you want to be. . .& how I can help bridge the gap. You’ll also have the opportunity to ask any questions you may have about me & my coaching practice. By the end, we’ll know if we’d be a good fit & we can decide how we’d like to proceed. If we decide to go our separate ways by the end, there will be absolutely no hard feelings! My hope is that you take at least one thing away from our chat that will positively affect your life.

How does health coaching work?
Most people know what they should be doing, they just aren’t doing it. Why, you ask? Because behavior change is hard! That’s why I believe that you’re most successful when you’re running the show & calling your own shots. You’re the expert in your life, you know what works for you. . .& I want you to meet your health & wellness goals on your own terms. We accomplish this through a collaborative approach in a supportive, non-judgmental space. Health coaching is a partnership between coach & client. It’s not about me telling you what to do. I’m here to encourage you, to empower you, to motivate you, to challenge you & to hold you accountable for what you want to accomplish. I guide you to make healthy choices by supporting you in finding your own strategies & motivation for changeanticipating potential obstaclesovercoming setbacksimplementing action plans & conducting experiments to discover what is most advantageous in your life. I can also help you navigate the treatment protocol prescribed by your healthcare provider & assist you in determining how to make it work in your life.

After you’ve decided that coaching is right for you & committed to the process, you will have access to my Welcome Program, which includes all the logistical information you need to get started, plus a few forms & assessments that will help me get to know you better. The focus of our first session together will be all about setting a solid foundation for our work together, which includes exploring your values & strengths. . .& how they support your vision & goals for our work together. By the end, we’ll have a realistic plan for how to move forward. . .& from there, we generally meet every two weeks.

In a typical coaching session, you will bring the topic of discussion. At the beginning of every session, I’ll ask you what you would like to talk about. . .& what you would like to walk away with by the end of our session. To maximize our time together, I ask you to complete a short check-in form two days prior to our next session. This form will help you collect your thoughts & identify topics that you’d like to address at our session. If you know what you want to talk about before our session, then we can get clear on the objective quickly & get into the coaching experience sooner. We may briefly review the prior session, any commitments that were made, or any successes or challenge you encountered since our last session, but where the session goes from there is up to you.
What's expected of me?
As far as what to expect during sessions, it’s all about you. Whatever you would like to talk about is fair game. You set the agenda. Depending on the length of our coaching relationship, I hope to understand your overall vision for yourself as far as health & wellness. . .& along the way we will work together to set realistic small goals that will lead you to your overarching goal.

As the client, besides being responsible for owning the agenda based on what is important to you, you are also responsible for your own learning & are in charge of doing the work, meaning, taking the necessary steps to reach your goals. To do this, you must be committed to being open & honest. . .& to becoming more self-aware, but also remembering to give yourself grace – change is hard & setbacks are normal & necessary in order to establish new mindsets & behaviors.

To help you do this, my job as the coach is to facilitate the process by listening, asking questions & reflecting what I’m hearing in ways that promote learning & growth. I will also encourage realistic goals & expectations. . .& to make sure you’re satisfied with the process.

There may be times when I feel the need to interject. . .& this isn’t to ruin your train of thought. It’s my responsibility to be mindful of the time & to keep us focused on what it is you want to accomplish in our given timeframe, so if I notice that you’re going off in another direction or giving too much back-story, I may recenter the conversation.

Other times, I may ask to offer an observation or suggestion, but I will first ask for your permission, which may seem strange, but it’s up to you whether you choose to welcome my input. . .because like I said, if you’re on a roll, I don’t want to stop you.

Finally, a few things about the environment. . .this is a professional space, but it should also be comfortable (wrapped up in a blanket on the couch with your jammies on, walking on a treadmill, pacing around the room. . .whatever puts you in the right headspace for our sessions is fine with me).

I will most likely be taking some notes during our session. . .& I encourage you to do the same if that aids in your learning process.
Why should I choose you?
  • I’m a client advocate.
    • I spent 16 years going to bat for my patients. Many don’t realize it, but nurses are the eyes & ears of the doctor. They spend hours observing & monitoring their patients. . .& when something goes sideways, it’s the nurses who inform the doctors. I’m not afraid to put myself out there for someone.
  • I’m brutally honest.
    • I may tell you something you don’t want to hear, but it’s ultimately your decision to decide if you do it or not. No one likes to be told what to do, but you also don’t know what you don’t know. I provide the data, you make the best decision for you.
  • I don’t play by the rules.
    • I’m actually very much by the book, but when something doesn’t feel right to me, I’m not afraid to question it. Honesty & integrity are two of my top strengths & values, but when something doesn’t make sense, I’m not afraid to question it.
  • I’m a curator of information.
    • I provide both sides of the story. There’s so much conflicting information out there. Might it be because we’re all very different creatures & what works for one doesn’t work for all? Often times it’s about experimenting for yourself to see what works. I help you develop & conduct these experiments & teach you how to track the data.
  • I’m not afraid to admit. . .I’m not an expert.
    • I don’t specialize in any one particular niche because functional medicine is about looking at the whole picture. I’m not dogmatic, nor do I believe that everything is right for everyone. There is no one-size-fits-all approach to wellness – it’s all about collecting tools for your toolbox & learning when you need to use them. I can’t possibly remember everything I’ve learned over the years, but I’m very organized & resourceful & I know where to go to find the answers.
  • I’m a lifelong learner.
    • Wellness isn’t a destination – it’s ever evolving as we constantly learn new things & refine our routines & practices. It’s okay to question how things were previously done. . .& you’re not a failure for making the best decision you could at the time with the information that you had.
  • I’m very high touch.
    • What does this mean? I don’t have hundreds of clients at one time who are equally competing for my time. I prefer having a small client roster so I can focus on the nuances of the individual. There is no cookie cutter approach to wellness. There might be a list of generally acceptable universal principles & strategies, but you are unique. . .& only you can determine what works best for you.
  • I’m driven by outcomes & transformations, not money.
    • Coaching is something I want to do, not something I have to do. . .& because it’s my passion & I enjoy what I do, my objectives are different. Love what you do & you’ll never work a day in your life.
Can you guarantee results?
Coaching is not a “done for you” relationship. . .& as your coach, I cannot want it more than you do. Change is NOT a passive sport – you get what you put into it & you must commit to the work or you won’t be happy with the results.

That being said, there are so many variables involved when creating change. . .& each individual is at a different stage in the process. . .it’s impossible to 100% guarantee any particular outcome (& I would question any coach who does).

Every decision we make involves risk. So let me ask you. . .what are you risking by NOT taking action. . .by continuing to figure this out on your own. . .by approaching it the same way you have been?

My client relationships are VERY important to me. . .& one thing I CAN promise is that I’ll always have your best interest in mind. In our final session, clients are often amazed at all the (anticipated & unanticipated) benefits they’ve achieved throughout our coaching relationship. So don’t delay any longer – let’s chat about how we can jumpstart or course-correct your health journey!

Ya, But. . .

(SOUND FAMILIAR?)

"I'm all onboard with getting healthy . . .
so long as I don't have to give up X."
(X = alcohol, gluten, late nights, etc)

Life is about choices. . .I know you know this, but it’s true!  If you were living your best, healthiest life, then you wouldn’t be reading this right now. Truth bomb here. . .if you think you can continue doing the things that are leaving you stuck in whatever it is you want to change, then you’re lying to yourself. But let’s not focus on what you might be challenged to “lose,” rather. . .let’s focus on all the potential side effects that will positively impact your life. . .more energy, less bloating, improved moods, better fitting clothes. . .maybe even without giving up X!

You never know. . .there are things I swore I would never give up – being a foodie, removing coffee or staying up late, for instance – I knew it was only temporary. . .& after I experimented going without for awhile, I could make an informed decision about how I wanted to proceed. As I saw & felt my health improve, I discovered that I didn’t care to bring back all my foodie tendencies, my old relationship with coffee or the night owl status badge I used to wear proudly. So, never say never!
"I'm sooo ready to be healthy . . .
I just need to get past X."
(X = work stretch, kids sports season, holidays, etc)

Be honest – is this a reality. . .or an excuse? I mean, we’re all super duper busy. . .is there ever really going to be a RIGHT time? While being proactive about our health takes time & energy, it’s far superior to being reactive. What will it take to make YOU a priority? Many people have to hit rock bottom before they’re ready to change. If you keep kicking the can, are you willing to risk the possibility that you may be forced to recover your health?

There’s no need to radically change your life overnight. . .it’s all about doing a few things well consistently, then building upon them as you develop new habits. We tackle the lowest hanging fruit that makes you start feeling better the fastest. . .& you gain momentum (contrary to popular belief – action precedes motivation). I can help you with bite-sized adjustments that fit into your hectic life.
"I barely have enough time in my day now. . .
I don't have time for X."
(X = coaching sessions, cooking extra meals, etc)

We make time for the things that are important to us – if you truly want something, you will make time for it. It’s as simple as that – sorry, not sorry! We all live incredibly busy lives & trying to add anything new seems like an impossibly daunting task, but it really comes down to priorities.

You may feel like your number one priority is tending to the needs of others, but is there anything truly more important than your health? Just a friendly reminder that you can’t help them to the best of your ability unless you’re taking care of YOU! This was one of the first lessons I learned in nursing school (& I particularly remind anyone in a caregiver role of that fact). We only get one body. . .& if health is holding you back, are you really living your life? Getting healthy doesn’t take time away from your busy lifestyle – it enriches the life you’re living. You deserve to be healthy & happy. I’m here to help you get there!
"I can't afford it . . .
it's too expensive & I can't justify the expense."
Coaching is definitely an investment, but like time, people find money for the things they truly want. . .& in my experience, money is often times a scapegoat for a different issue. So ask yourself. . .is it really about the price tag or is something else weighing on you (perhaps one of the other statements above)? Once we uncover the real reason behind this statement, we can go from there.

Maybe it really is a money thing. . .& if that’s the case, I respect your honesty. If you’re liking what you’re seeing, there are a few free ways to connect with me. When you download my freebie, you’ll automatically be registered for my email list, you can join my free Wellness Gypsies Caravan Facebook Group or you can send me a message.
